  • Data Collection and Surveillance
    This workgroup focuses on the development and implementation of a comprehensive asthma surveillance program. Strategies for this group address data needs; comprehensive and structured asthma data surveillance system; timely access to data; and standard data definitions.
  • Public Education
    This workgroup focuses on increasing public awareness of asthma as a serious chronic disease and on improving the knowledge and skills of patients regarding the detection, treatment, and control of asthma, particularly among high-risk populations. Strategies for this group address asthma education and public awareness; asthma information resources; peer education and social support; access to quality asthma education programs; and asthma coalition building.
  • Children and Youth
    This workgroup focuses on activities related to schools and early care settings. Strategies for this group address asthma education and awareness; stronger management and support systems; safe and healthy environments; school nurse coordination; and the coordination of school, family and community efforts.
  • Environmental Quality
    This workgroup focuses on identifying environmental hazards and work-related risk factors that contribute to asthma and to determine remedies that address specific settings, such as homes, commercial buildings, early care settings, schools and the workplace. Strategies for this group address environmental hazards that contribute to Indiana’s asthma burden in Indiana homes and commercial buildings; schools and regulated early care settings; outdoor air; and indoor and outdoor workplaces.
  • Health Care Provider
    This workgroup focuses on asthma management by practicing providers, training of future health care providers, and meeting patient needs most effectively in a medical home. Strategies for this group address best practice guidelines; patient education and asthma action plans; health benefit coverage and reimbursement; health care provider education; and medical home concept.
